This month’s cover is Zombie by The Cranberries in honor of Women’s History Month, in memory of Dolores O’ Riordan (RIP) and in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. Also in support of the National Student Walkout on March 14, 2018 and upcoming march on 3/24 of this year.
I was so sad to learn of Dolores O’Riordan’s death in January at only age 46. I’ve always been a fan of her music and The Cranberries. I did a cover of this song back in 2011, but didn’t have a good video of it, so I thought this would be a good time to revisit this song.
Sadly, this song is also more timely than ever with all of the gun violence that has been happening in America. I’ve been a member of Everytown and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America ever since the Sandy Hook school massacre and and we’ve been trying to get more sensible gun laws passed here. Because of the NRA lobby and huge donations to politicians including $30M to Trump it has been nearly impossible on the federal level, but some great progress has been made with state legislation. Since the recent tragedy in Parkland, Fl I feel that this is a new turning point. I’m just so proud to see the students mobilizing and making their voices heard and I will be supporting them during the march on the 24th of this month by attending the rally and making phone calls to voters encouraging them to contact their reps to stop this awful bill called Conceal Carry Reciprocity which would weaken state laws.
I’m also working on a new song about gun violence in America and I want to record it to sell and raise more money to support Everytown and Moms Demand Action.
